Preparation Through MiXXing

For Chi-ryu Jiujitsu practitioners, the initial pathway to the unification of mind, body, and breath (spirit-energy) is cultivated through the exercise of MiXXiNG.

Grand Master Latimer developed MiXXing for the purpose of establishing and developing the practitioner's response to the physical energies and rhythmic, internal expression emanating from their opponent.

While engaging in MiXXiNG, the student maintains constant contact with his/her partner.

This approach simulates close quarters combat situations in a dynamic way and increases the practitioner’s balance, perception, and ability to anticipate (sense) when their opponent’s energy changes or resets in its movement.

During the exercise the constant contact is maintained by smoothly brushing and coordinating with the partner’s forearms, hands, wrists, shoulders, and all other areas, though it is primarily focused on the entire arm and points of the shoulders.

The student slowly increases his/her coordination (chi energy) levels through breathing coordinated with movements of the entire body that is:

  • Slow
  • Fluid
  • Continuous

This is done in an attempt to achieve “Mushin”, mind of no mind.
